PHOTO COMMUNICATIONS VILLE DE MONT-ROYAL

Elisabeth Dandavino had the chance to learn Glazik embroidery with Pascal Jaouen, founder of the School of Quimper in France. The artist says that she was immediately drawn to this technique, which consists of filling pre-drawn spaces with relatively simple stitches. Then she discovered linocut with a remarkable teacher, Vladimir Midvichi. In addition to the joy of learning a new artistic discipline, she creates links between art embroidery and engraving.

From an inspiration, draw to embroider, tell a story, play with shimmering colors, repeat the same gesture a hundred times to obtain the perfect point, harmony, so that the eye savors each bit of the work and everywhere discover a detail, a surprise, an unexpected element...

Or draw to engrave, hatch the project born of a photo, a landscape, a dream or a memory, hesitate between a thousand and one ways of dealing with the subject, in naive, stylized, realistic mode, to finally starting to cut the plate for hours, adding details, purifying, always to achieve harmony and balance that will delight the eye.

Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson Library

From festive Tel Aviv, an open city facing the Mediterranean, to conservative Jerusalem, a city sacred to the three great monotheistic religions, Israel presents a portrait full of contrasts. Neighboring Jordan, for its part, conceals one of the most impressive archaeological sites: Petra, capital of the Nabataeans, carved into an incandescent rock...

Once a week, for three or four hours, time is suspended. It is then that the people taking part in the workshops have a rendez-vous with their creativity.

PHOTOS STATION MONT-ROYAL

In a relaxed atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support, all focus on learning concepts that will enable them to conjure up on paper or canvas a depiction of the model before them or an image they want to bring to life. Everyone arrives at the course with a different set of skills and experiences. The goal is to develop those skills while maintaining one’s vision and artistic personality. It is the fruit of these efforts that we proudly share with you in this exhibit, a voyage through the various works that reflect the artists’ sensibilities and souls.
