In a brief statement that reached the office of the Station Mont-Royal newspaper today (June 1, 2022), Mrs. Maryam Kamali Nezhad, sworn in November 2021 as municipal councilor representing district No 2, informs us of her dissociation of Team Peter Malouf, and of her intention to sit as an independent councilor from now on. We publish here, in its entirety, the declaration received from Mrs. Kamali Nezhad, dated May 31, 2022.
Maryam Kamali Nezhad sworn in to the Town of Mount Royal in November 2021 I hereby announce that I dissociate myself from Team Peter Malouf and declare myself Independent. Elected since November 7, 2021 as a municipal councillor in the Town of Mount Royal in District No. 2, I have decided to sit on Council as an Independent. The main reason for my decision is to keep my independent voice on Council to better defend the interests of the Town and the citizens who trusted me by voting for me during the last election.
There are many critical issues facing the City that require professional and timely action. In order to be very transparent with my constituents and with the entire community, I would like to mention that I do not share the opinions and positions on many of these issues with Team Peter Malouf. By sitting as an independent councillor, I hope to be able to better serve the Mount Royal community and I am eager to represent the interests of citizens on the Town of Mount Royal's municipal council.
I would like to thank all citizens of Mount-Royal for their trust and support in achieving this goal.
Maryam Kamali Nezhad
